Elf FAQ
Which classes work well with a 2014 Elf?
Any permitted class can work with a 2014 Elf. The fixed +2 Dexterity naturally supports Rogues, Rangers, Monks, Dexterity Fighters and other characters using finesse or ranged weapons, while High Elf and Wood Elf subrace traits can support different directions. The species does not restrict class choice, and the best pairing depends on the character's actual ability scores, subclass and campaign.
Dexterity synergy
Dexterity contributes to many weapon attacks, initiative, Dexterity saving throws, Stealth and often Armor Class, so the 2014 +2 increase has broad value.
High Elf can support Intelligence concepts
The 2014 High Elf adds +1 Intelligence and a Wizard cantrip, which naturally fits Intelligence-focused or magic-adjacent characters.
Wood Elf can support Wisdom and mobility
The 2014 Wood Elf adds +1 Wisdom, 35-foot speed and Mask of the Wild, which can complement scouts, Rangers, Druids, Clerics or mobile martial builds.
Core traits remain useful across classes
Perception proficiency, Darkvision and charm resistance can help almost any adventurer.
Do not overstate optimization
A class whose primary ability is neither Dexterity nor the selected subrace increase can still function. Character generation, later Ability Score Improvements and campaign-specific rules determine the final build.
Astral Elf needs its own evaluation
Do not use this 2014 synergy analysis for Astral Elf automatically, because Astral Elf has flexible ability-score increases and a different active trait package.
