What Rage activates

Every Rage starts with a Wild Surge roll, and several surge results remain usable or active for that Rage. Unstable Backlash later lets damage or a failed save trigger a new surge, while Controlled Surge improves the result selection.

What remains useful outside Rage

Magic Awareness and Bolstering Magic do not require Rage, giving the subclass useful magical detection and party support between fights.

The normal Rage restrictions still matter

Wild Surge happens because Rage begins, but the surge does not make Rage compatible with normal spellcasting. The 2014 restrictions on casting and concentration still apply while the Barbarian benefits from the Path's magical effects.

Why Rage duration matters

A surge whose duration is tied to Rage ends when Rage ends. Because a new Rage produces a new roll, the subclass is designed around temporary magical states rather than one permanent power set.
