Human FAQ
What is the Human species in D&D?
The Human entry here uses the standard 2014 Basic Rules Human. Humans are Medium, have a 30-foot walking speed, increase all six ability scores by 1, and know Common plus one extra language. The published standard Human has no built-in Darkvision, innate spellcasting, resistance, or limited-use combat resource.
2014 source basis
The Human traits described here are the standard Basic Rules (2014) version.
Broad ability-score improvement
Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma each increase by 1. This makes the standard Human broadly competent rather than focused on one predefined specialty.
Simple physical profile
The standard Human is Medium and has a base walking speed of 30 feet.
Languages
A 2014 Human can speak, read and write Common plus one additional language of the player's choice, subject to the campaign's language availability.
No required class direction
The Human package does not privilege one class through a unique combat trait. The ability-score spread can contribute to almost any build.
Party 1 note is separate
D&D Portal currently records a Party 1 rule allowing Human characters to begin with one additional language tied to the capital. That is not part of the published Basic Rules Human.
