Read lies and weaknesses to enable precision attacks.
Inquisitive starts by changing the normal Rogue play pattern through Ear for Deceit; Eye for Detail; Insightful Fighting, giving the subclass its first clear mechanical identity.
Later features such as Steady Eye, Unerring Eye, Eye for Weakness expand that identity at higher levels, so the subclass has a clearer role in combat, exploration, utility, or support.

How do you build and play a Inquisitive Rogue?
Build the Inquisitive on top of a normal Dexterity-focused Rogue, then invest in the secondary abilities and skills that support the archetype. Study the scene before rushing in. In combat, identify a high-value enemy and establish Insightful Fighting when normal Sneak Attack setup is unreliable. Outside combat, Expertise in Insight, Perception or Investigation can turn the Rogue into the party's main detective.

Once the contested Insight check succeeds, you can Sneak Attack that creature for the feature's duration even without advantage and without an ally beside it, as long as you do not have disadvantage. How does Insightful Fighting work?
Insightful Fighting uses a bonus action and a contested Wisdom (Insight) check against a target's Charisma (Deception). On a success, you gain a special Sneak Attack route against that target for up to 1 minute: you do not need advantage or another enemy of the target nearby, but you still cannot use Sneak Attack while you have disadvantage.
