Awareness, intuition, and insight
Wisdom
Wisdom measures awareness, intuition, perception, and the ability to understand people and surroundings.
What It Is
Wisdom is one of the six ability scores that define what a character or creature is naturally good at.
This page is a compact play reference. If a spell, feature, monster, item, or DM ruling gives a more specific instruction, use that specific instruction.
How To Use It
Use Wisdom for awareness, intuition, perception, survival, medicine, insight, and reading the world around you.
Limits And Rolls
- The DM chooses the ability for an uncertain task unless a rule already specifies it.
- Skills can pair with an ability score when the task fits that skill.
- A feature, spell, item, or saving throw can use this ability in a specific way.
- When a Wisdom roll is needed, roll d20 + the Wisdom modifier, plus proficiency bonus if a relevant proficiency applies.
